A Star in VR

Dr. Chris Headleand, programme leader for BSc (Hons) Games Computing is working on a new video series to help students realise the scope and scale of their learning community and highlight key people around the University who have an impact on student experience but may remain unknown amongst the student body.

The video series is designed as a Lincoln-centric spoof of Top Gear’s “Star in a Reasonably Priced Car”, where key staff who students may not have met, complete a Virtual Lap around Brands Hatch in a Porsche 911 GT3. This is then used as a framing device to package up a meaningful interview about the person and increase student awareness of their work at the University.

An example of this can be seen in the interview with Alasdair Houser, Head of the English Language Centre.

The Star in VR video series has had a measurable impact on student engagement with their wider learning community. The School of Computing reporting an increased engagement specifically with the placement support team as a result.

The project shows potential for raising more student awareness, particularly in the area of employer engagement and employment opportunities.
